I participated in Nakanojo Biennale 2023. 6 weeks artist-in-residence in Gunma, Japan.
“River that corrodes”
The rivers that flow down Mount Shirane are highly acidic and have been adored by people since ancient times. Experiencing the magnificent water quality and the Onsen culture here, I could not help but feel the power of the land and earth.
I was intrigued by the phenomenon of how semi-permanent materials were dissolved by the pH2 waters. The water in Kusatsu and its ability to dissolve and carve semi-permanent materials such as iron, limestone, and concrete were the starting point to this body of work. Photo: Kazuyuki Miyamoto
